August and September's "Help Me Pay my Rent Special."

So as most of you know, I have recently relocated to Clermont, Florida. So happy to be here in the sunshine state and have a sign near my house that says, "Disney World 1 mile."

This is a huge change for me, because now I am in an area where I know very little people, and I am trying to figure out a way to get meet new clients and new friends!

So, I figured one of the best ways to introduce people to my services (and to make enough money to pay rent and the thousands of other crazy bills I have to pay...) is to have a really big sale.

So here goes...

While waiting on an export....

Oh my Gosh! Where did Saturday go?

It Sunday, 1:16, and I am still working on Senior Photos.

Well, I know where most of Saturday went....walmart.

While most of Natchitoches were outside enjoying the beautiful weather, and listening to some great music, I was stuck waiting on the automotive department to fix a hole in my tire.

Did I mention I got to wait while shopping with a very tired and aggravated 20 month old,  and a very energetic and hyped up 7 year old...

Fun Stuff..

But before that, I did have a wonderful session with two very sweet little ones, Aaron and Emma!

So, that was a nice touch to an otherwise horrible day.

I had every intention of getting completely caught up yesterday, but between the flat tire, Wal-Mart experience, and my computer deciding it did not want to work anymore...it just didn't happen.

So right now, I am waiting for LR to export pictures, and speed typing, while feeding the boys lunch.

Time Management is something new to me, since I have never been this busy before! I am truly blessed to be learning how to manage my photography and my family time.

Well, I know this was a pretty lame post...lol...but I have to get back to editing, uploading, and posting pics to galleries/facebook!

Have a great Sunday afternoon...

Prints & Pondering...

Normal people with normal workweeks would rejoice over today being Friday! Its your last day of this miserable work week, time to let go and have fun! Time to relax! Time for a weekend of nothingness, or everything you can cram in to two days!

But for me, It's order and delivery day. Which is exciting in itself =)

Nothing makes me feel better than knowing that my clients love their pictures and have chosen to purchase them!

(I guess I should expect them to order something...but you never know...)

This morning on Facebook, I found this picture on another photographer's facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/pa
ges/Amy-Cook-Photography/140751272659433):

The top print is an original. This is the original file or image that came from a professional photographer. This is what your print should look like when printed. This is what your print will look like when printed at a professional printing lab when ordered through your photographer.

The bottom picture is a copy of this image printed from Wal-Mart.

I have not stressed the importance of professional printing to my clients, because this whole process of running a business is new to me, and quite overwhelming, and I really don't like being a pushy "salesperson."

But I don't really see this as a pushy sale..this is why:

Lately, its something I have been thinking a lot about.

Right now, I offer my clients the option to buy a CD with all their edited images on it for $150. This is honestly a huge steal for them, because some photographers charge upwards $20 per image file, and my clients are getting on average 20-45 files per CD.

However, as a human being, I understand that people have expenses, and I am not as an experienced as these other photographers...so this is not a complaint! Not a complaint at all! $150 is a lot of money...

Anyways, back to the print issue. A lot of my clients just opt to buy the CD because they love all their photos, and can't choose! Which is totally fine, and I love because it means they are happy with their pictures!

However, they are not ordering professional prints, probably because of the cost factor. But they are missing out on an investment.

I thought about, and am still thinking about....somewhere down the road... enforcing a set amount of print orders before you could order the CD.

Not as a money making scheme! But as a way to ensure that the work I put in to making professional pictures actually goes in to professional looking prints. Does that make sense?

I just want the best for my clients and my pictures. Its my art, and their pictures, and I just want the best for both.

So its something for everyone to ponder...

Price vs. Quality.

Which one is more important?

Its really tough isn't it?

Well...enough pondering for me..lol. It's 7:25 and I really should be getting lunch packed for Alex (my 7 year old), and get him off to school!

TGIF!

Face First...

Falling on your face sure hurts.

But if you can still get up, brush yourself off and walk a little it further, you are sure to gain your balance...

until you slip on a banana peel and fall on your face again...

its a vicious cycle and  it is the story of my life...

So yesterday I officially posted the ordering webpage for LSMSA Prom Pictures. I had lots of worries and doubts since it was my first ever Prom picture taking ordeal (I know, I sound like a true professional here...),

And well, to be honest...not all of them were the greatest pictures ever.

However, I did do my best, and I was proud of how a lot of them turned out.

But somehow, the bad always overshadows the good in our minds...

And this morning, despite the fact that someone had already placed an order, and several students had saved favorites in the gallery, I felt the clouds shading me from my sunshine.

The one couple who had actually paid up front at the prom, did not like their pictures, and wanted their money back....and of course I caved.

I wish my prom photographer had been so generous as to do this for me, my prom pictures were horrible! I threw them in the trash as soon as I received them at school. But no money back for me....

I digress...

Anyways, what I was trying to get to here (with the clever little beginning to my blog) is that, as a new photographer, and an even newer business owner, I am going to have to suck this up, take a step forward, and just wait for the next time I will fall on my face.

This isn't the first time, it definitely won't be the last, but I can't let it keep me down.

Yes, I can get heartbroken.

Yes, I can get all prego and hormonal and cry for hours over it (well while I'm still pregnant anyways).

And yes, I can definitely drown my sorrow in cake and icecream....(mmm...cake and ice cream....)

But NO! I can not let myself give up.

Okay, I may have sucked a little.

Okay, I have not got a letter back from the school saying that they loved the pictures, like I had expected to...

And Okay....I may not get asked to do prom pictures again!

But, I have learned a lesson...(I think)...and I have decided not to let it get to me.

(Now if someone could just let my hormonal emotional side know that I have made this decision...)

I am going to continue on, take some deep breathes, catch my balance, and prepare for the next banana peel, which I am pretty sure is right around the corner....
